Better Is A Day In Your Courts!

“For a day in Your courts is
better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Psalm 84:10

Blinkin Squiggle

Even today, when I read Psalm 84, it reminds me of one of my favorite worship songs by Kim Hill, “Better Is One Day”.  I heard it sung live by Kim, I believe in 1999, when I attended the “Renewing The Heart – For Such A Time As This” conference in Seattle.  A friend who had tickets invited several of us to go and it ended up being a time of worship I will never forget.

The words to this song left me feeling as if I had truly entered into the courts of God and it changed the way I worshiped Him.  “How lovely are Your dwelling places” had taken on a real meaning to me, and I felt that I could relate with the Psalmist for the first time.

In addition to an amazing time of worship, the guest speakers came with messages that kept me clinging to God.  I listened intently to Joni Eareckson Tada speak about the accident that changed her life at only 17 years old,  and I heard Kay Arthur speak for the first time on a lie that moms often believe, a topic I had never heard anyone speak on, but helped me to make a deeper commitment to my children.

At that conference in Seattle with some special Christian friends I learned something new about worship and placing my hope fully in God;  That while we are still on this earth waiting for Jesus to return, we can come into the presence of God, come into His courts with praise.

Since learning this, my soul has had many times of longing and even yearning for the courts of the Lord;  “My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God” at the thought of dwelling there one day; “How blessed are those who dwell in God’s house!  They are ever praising You.”

Inspired to Cherish
Let’s take time to write Psalm 84 into our personal journals.  Remember to use your very best handwriting.  You may like to take time to listen to “Better Is One Day” by Kim Hill and praise God along with her.  It will be a nice start to your day.

Konnichiwa Is My Nickname

Banner3333333threehearts2In 1982, I was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the first group of students in the Sister City Exchange Program to travel from Moses Lake, Washington to Yonezawa, Japan.  It was an experience of a lifetime and left me with a tender place in my heart for the Japanese people.  Since my name is Connie, pronounced with a long “o” in Japanese, they affectionately called me “Konni-chiwa”, which means “a good day”.

Almost seventeen years ago, I was blessed again when our family was able to be a host family to a young girl from Japan named Hitomi who came to stay with us through a Christian exchange student program.

It was an honor to share our Christian home with Hitomi and after she graduated from high school in Japan, we were so amazed and blessed that she returned to our area, graduated from college with honors through a nursing degree, got married, and had a baby boy.

For my youngest daughter’s 12th birthday this year, she asked if we could consider hosting some Japanese girls in her age group from Japan.  I was once again amazed when our church requested host families for Japanese students, 12 to 13 years old, to arrive on my daughter’s birthday!  Of course we put in our request right away and a month later met “Peanut” and “Bell” as they affectionately wanted to be called.

Starbucks Every Day!

My heart was stolen away by these two beautiful and loving Japanese girls. They came through a Christian school called MeySen Academy and I highly recommend looking into this school if you are interested in hosting Japanese students or if you would like to consider teaching English in Japan.

While the girls were here, we had lots of fun.  They had only two requests:  Eat cheeseburgers, and go to Mount Rainier.  Here are some pictures of all the fun we had for the short three days they stayed in our home…

Cheeseburgers at Burger King!
Jumping on the trampoline with the sprinkler underneath!
Visiting my oldest daughter at Starbucks!
Peanut, Naomi & Bell
A lovely day on Mount Rainier!
The weather was perfect up on the mountain, we could see for miles!
Pike Place Market in Seattle!
Lunch at Seattle Red Robin with a friendly seagull!
More Cheeseburgers!
Yes, he demanded to have his own picture!
Looking out over Seattle from the Ferris Wheel!
And a sad good-bye with hopes to see them both again!

For Me The World Stands Still

If you have stopped in to visit and found that not much has been happening, I want you to know that it will be happening again.  However, right now for me, the world stands still.  It seems that upon my venturing out to take my youngest daughter to the spectacular Nutcracker at McCaw Hall in Seattle, I picked up an extremely strong flu from amongst the people.

I appreciate your prayers at this time and your patience as I plan to pick up where I left off when I return.  At this time, much rest is suggested.

I hope this note finds you blessed and healthy!
