My Hon- and I went down to the water’s edge on the Puget Sound last night, near Olalla, and I got these pictures of the Lunar Eclipse, full blood moon.

This reminds me of Revelation 6:12-14,

“I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.  The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.”

It was so beautiful, and I was surprised that in the last two pictures, I could see some of the stars.  God’s creation is truly magnificent!

Faces on Sticks?

I am taking an on-line course called “Nature’s Canvas” by Tania Bain on the Jeanne Oliver Design Creative Network and I am loving it so much, I just had to tell you!  I went for a drive along the Puget Sound beach with my two youngest kids today, and collected some drift wood.

Here’s where the fun begins.  But before I can begin this fun, that I haven’t told you about yet, I have to do some face painting practice…

This is my first face and I’m so glad I put her in my SimplyLiving Art Journal because I think she turned out so cool!

Now I just have to get her on one of my pieces of wood.  If all goes well, I will show you that tomorrow – Hopefully! 🙂

Cannon Beach, Oregon

If you have spent time on this blog, you probably already know that our family loves Cannon Beach, Oregon.  It is a very special place on God’s amazing earth and many people travel from all over to spend a day or two, a week, or even a whole summer there.  “What is the attraction?”, you may ask.  Well, if you have never been, you may never know.  I truly believe that all the words and pictures of Cannon Beach gathered together in one place could still not give you insight to what the attraction of this beautiful place of God is.  You simply must experience it for yourself in order to know.

The youngest of my two sons, loves to take pictures of the waves at Cannon Beach.  He gets the camera dangerously close, most of the time.  But the pictures that I have to share on my blog make the whole ordeal of me screaming on the beach well worth it! Can you see the beautiful mountains in the background?  They have sharper peaks than we are use to seeing here in the Puget Sound and it seems that the trees are shorter and more bushier.  It makes the mountains look green and fuzzy.  Every plant that you see in the small town of Cannon Beach looks extremely healthy. Maybe because of the salty air from the ocean.

Beautiful places like Cannon Beach remind me of God’s Word. You cannot experience the deep beauty of them without going there yourself. God is the Creator of the universe and He created these beautiful places for us to experience a relationship with Him. It’s not a place to worship His creation, but to worship the only One and True Living God who created it all.

“For since the creation of the world
His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly seen,
being understood through what has been made,
so that they are without excuse.”

As I get older, I find myself drawn more and more to places like Cannon Beach. I think it’s because my longing for Heaven is increasing and Cannon Beach is like a glimpse of Heaven on earth. It’s a place where I feel closer to my Creator, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city life. Back to the basics, back to the sand and the waves, back to His people, who seem for a moment to have laid aside their differences and have come to enjoy God and fellowship with each other. It is a place where we can focus on truly loving God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind and loving others as ourselves.  It is a place to worship the God of Heaven and Earth, our Maker.

Do you have a favorite place you like to go?  Is it to the beach or would you rather stay inland?  Is it far from your home?  Busy or relaxed?  I would love to hear where your family likes to hang out and why you like to go there. Leave a comment below and let me know 🙂

Happy Worshiping!

The End of Autumn

What a beautiful autumn 2014 has shown us.  The trees boasted an array of colors this year and we had the best time driving through the Olympic mountains and just taking in some truly breath-taking scenes over open fields and lakes, and of course the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean beaches.

Here on my own homestead the maples were as gorgeous as ever and the reds, oranges, and yellows seemed to be even deeper and brighter than I remember them being last year.

Now, the rains and winds, and even the freezing cold temperatures have settled in and the last of the maple leaves have fallen to the ground. No more dancing around in the swirling breezes.  They are wet and stuck to everything.

The other morning our dog’s water dish was frozen with beautiful red maple leaves brilliantly embedded within as if an ice sculptor had come during the night and left us with a masterpiece.  Cooper our Australian Shepherd was wondering what to do about the situation…

I love this time of year when the cold sends me inside with candles aglow and fuzzy warm socks on my feet, heavy sweaters, the fire burning, nice warm Chamomile tea or sometimes even a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows. This is when my artistic mind really kicks in and I start decorating for Thanksgiving, preparing to make my Christmas cards to celebrate Christ’s birth, and thinking about starting Advent with “The Handel’s Messiah Family Advent Reader”.  It’s the time we spend celebrating the King of king’s birth and looking forward to Him coming again, all at the same time.  Wonderful!

I hope this time of year has wonderful memories of family and friends and fragrant smells of candles and dinners for you.  May Jesus bless you richly with His love and presence.

Please take time to comment below with a special Thanksgiving dish recipe or just say Hi. I’d love to hear from you.

Happy November 2014!
