Words To Tell Our Children

“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light;
And reproofs for discipline are the way of life…”

Proverbs 6:23

Blinkin Squiggle

What precious gifts our children are from God.  I marvel, as I am sure you do, that God would entrust them to us…  He must truly see something in us that we cannot see.

My husband and I have four children and as we have been told so often over the years by those much wiser than ourselves, “They grow up quickly!”  I would say now they grow up even quicker than that.  It is as if we blinked our eyes only one time, and twenty years flew by.

I can still remember the advice given us, from a manager that my husband reported to, when we were nearing the birth of our first child.  He said something like, “After a month or so, move your baby to his own room, in his own bed, and when he cries at night, don’t rush in and pick him up until his next feeding time.  Simply, cover him back up, make sure he is dry and comfortable, and then leave him to go back to sleep.  Let him cry a little if need be, but don’t pick him up until his next feeding time.”

I know this advice would horrify some, but for us, it was the best advice we could have received.  It worked with our first baby and I wish I could say we were diligent enough to use it for all four of our babies. Yet, I understand that while this may have been good advice for us, it may not have worked for others.

I’m so thankful that the Word of God is good for all of God’s children and it is a blessing for any of us who take the time to read it and do what it says.  It makes for a firm foundation for us and our children and our children’s children.

Inspired to Cherish
Let’s take time to read Proverbs 6.  Now let’s write Proverbs 6:20-23 in our personal journals.

If you have children or grandchildren in your life, or even nieces, nephews or neighborhood children, you may want to write them a special letter in your beautiful handwriting using these verses.  Maybe you can even type it up and frame it like this:

This is only one of many different prayers you can take time to type up for a special person.  Search the Scriptures and find the perfect one for that precious gift God has placed in your life.

How To Pray For Children

Praying for guidance from God as a Mom is huge to me, I need all the help I can get.  When I don’t know exactly what to pray, I always turn to the Scriptures and just read them, write them, or pray them back to God.

My daily journals are literally filled to the brim with the handwritten Word of God.  I figure they are His Words so they are true and powerful, and I choose to trust that His Word will be done.

Here’s only one of the many beautiful prayers in the Bible.  This one was written by the Apostle Paul and it is perfect to pray over our children.

Blinkin Squiggle

“… I bow my knees before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,
that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly
beyond all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works within us,
to Him be the glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus
to all generations
forever and ever, Amen.”

Raindrops & Words

It’s a beautiful rainy day today.  Steady, big, drenching raindrops have been falling all through the night.  Pounding out a rhythmic sound on the roof and in my head while I slept very well – surprisingly.  After a long, hot summer, it feels as if each drop is watering my very soul… like each one is preparing me for something.

This morning as I sat down to write out Scripture and my prayers to my Lord, the rain reminded me of my two most favorite verses in the Bible:

Blinkin Squiggle

“For the ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;”  -Hebrews 6:7

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;…” – Isaiah 55:10

Every time I read Hebrews 6:7, I pray that God will make me like the ground.  I want to drink the rain which often falls on me.  I want it to bring forth fruit in my life that is useful to those who spend time with me.  Those who want to dig deep and really know me.  As a wife and mom, I think of my Hon- and my kids.  When they are with me, I want them to benefit from me – like a harvest for them from God.

In these two verses I see that the rain often falls on the ground and in the form of both rain and snow it comes down from heaven.  It is coming from God, from His place in heaven – He is sending it down to us here on earth.  And He has sent it with a purpose:

Isaiah says that it does not return to heaven without first watering the earth and making it bear and sprout and furnish seed for us! This is so beautiful!  Thank You Father for the rain – You are so good to us!

🙂 There is so much in Isaiah 55 – I always read the whole thing for good measure 🙂

I’m so thankful this morning as I read a little further in Isaiah 55:11 – God is not really talking about the rain.  He is talking about His Word.

“So will My Word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”  -Isaiah 55:11

Blinkin Squiggle

WOW!  I wonder…  What will I worry about today?  There are so many things going on all over the world.  How will it affect me?  Will it take my eyes off the One who orchestrates it all? The One who ordains each raindrop and sends His Word forth which cannot be stopped and will be accomplished on this earth?  O Lord, keep my eyes on You today.

Here’s a picture of my homestead in the winter of 2013 – when God sent down the rain and the snow together 🙂  O Happy Rainy Day!
