September Devotion, Day 27

There Is Something About That Name!

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other
name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:12

Blinkin Squiggle

How can anyone truly surrender their life to someone whom they don’t really know or understand?  In Ephesians 2:4-10, Paul answers this question,

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions,
made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
so that in the age to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

As you read through these verses, you see that it’s “with Christ Jesus” and “in Christ Jesus” that God has saved us by grace through faith, and He did this while we were dead in our sins.  God did it and we are told that we can’t even boast in this fact.

Some ask this question, “What is our part then?”  Paul answers in Romans 10:9-10,

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord,
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved;
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness,
and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

Our part is simply to believe what God has done for us in Jesus Christ His Son and we will be saved.  Now, we can’t leave out Ephesians 1:13-14 that tells us something else that happens when God saves us by grace through faith and we believe in Jesus Christ,

“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth,
the gospel of your salvation —
having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
who is given as a pledge of our inheritance;
with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession,
to the praise of His glory.”

Because of the name of Jesus Christ we can have confidence before God, a sincere and clean heart, a steadfast confession that does not waver, the ability to stimulate one another, and the desire to come together regularly to encourage one another – and we need this now more than ever.

Are you here and have never given your life to Christ?  I want you to know that it is easier than you think because God has done it all for you through His Son Jesus Christ. You just need to believe that God is telling you the truth about His Son.  There is no other way for you to be saved accept by the name of Jesus Christ.

Inspired to Cherish
Let’s write in our personal journals Hebrews 10:19-25.  Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do you have confidence to enter the holy place where God is?
  2. Is your heart sincere and cleansed from an evil conscience and your body washed with pure water?
  3. Are you holding fast the confession of hope without wavering?
  4. Do you take time to consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds?
  5. Is it a priority to you that you not forsake assembling together with fellow believers in order to encourage one another?

Now let’s spend time on this beautiful Sunday asking God our Father to help this to be true of us after all He has done for us in Jesus Christ our Lord.

September Devotion, Day 25

Faithful

“Well done, good and faithful servant.  You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.”
Matthew 25:21

Blinkin Squiggle

I think as Christians all of us would love to hear these words at some point in our lives. But we would have to know clearly what it is we are called to do.  Jesus has made this clear by commanding us to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves.

This would take submission to our Master with a true desire to do it His way, and not our own.  When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, His Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us and Paul tells us to, “… walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

It would take dedication and commitment on our part, seeing it through to the very end no matter how long it might take.  Hebrews 3:6 tells us, “but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house — whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.”

SeptemberDevotionDaisy

It would also take a life of godliness and 2 Peter 1:3 says that Jesus has taken care of this on our behalf, “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”

Let’s read Titus 2.  Now pick the portion of Titus 2 that applies to you and write it out in your personal journal.  Now let’s take time to pray that God will help us to be faithful servants in the portion that He has given us.

Raindrops & Words

It’s a beautiful rainy day today.  Steady, big, drenching raindrops have been falling all through the night.  Pounding out a rhythmic sound on the roof and in my head while I slept very well – surprisingly.  After a long, hot summer, it feels as if each drop is watering my very soul… like each one is preparing me for something.

This morning as I sat down to write out Scripture and my prayers to my Lord, the rain reminded me of my two most favorite verses in the Bible:

Blinkin Squiggle

“For the ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;”  -Hebrews 6:7

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;…” – Isaiah 55:10

Every time I read Hebrews 6:7, I pray that God will make me like the ground.  I want to drink the rain which often falls on me.  I want it to bring forth fruit in my life that is useful to those who spend time with me.  Those who want to dig deep and really know me.  As a wife and mom, I think of my Hon- and my kids.  When they are with me, I want them to benefit from me – like a harvest for them from God.

In these two verses I see that the rain often falls on the ground and in the form of both rain and snow it comes down from heaven.  It is coming from God, from His place in heaven – He is sending it down to us here on earth.  And He has sent it with a purpose:

Blinkin Squiggle

Isaiah says that it does not return to heaven without first watering the earth and making it bear and sprout and furnish seed for us! This is so beautiful!  Thank You Father for the rain – You are so good to us!

🙂 There is so much in Isaiah 55 – I always read the whole thing for good measure 🙂

I’m so thankful this morning as I read a little further in Isaiah 55:11 – God is not really talking about the rain.  He is talking about His Word.

“So will My Word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”  -Isaiah 55:11

Blinkin Squiggle

WOW!  I wonder…  What will I worry about today?  There are so many things going on all over the world.  How will it affect me?  Will it take my eyes off the One who orchestrates it all? The One who ordains each raindrop and sends His Word forth which cannot be stopped and will be accomplished on this earth?  O Lord, keep my eyes on You today.

Here’s a picture of my homestead in the winter of 2013 – when God sent down the rain and the snow together 🙂  O Happy Rainy Day!
