September Devotion, Day 13

In the Hand of the Potter

“…Then I went down to the potter’s house,
and there he was, making something on the wheel.
But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter;
so he remade it into another vessel,
as it pleased the potter to make.”

Jeremiah 18:3-4

Blinkin Squiggle

In the Book of Jeremiah God tells the prophet to go to the potter’s house.  He had something to show Jeremiah pertaining to the house of Israel.  They were marred and they were in the hand of the Potter.

But the Bible tells us that we are all marred, not just the house of Israel.  Sin entered into the world through Adam and it has spread from one person to the next to the point of consuming us all.  And the result of sin has been death which has also spread to us all.

This is where our faith comes in.  It’s by placing our faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God that the Potter then begins to remold us.  I love Romans 5 because it tells us clearly that while we were still in sin and enemies to God, Jesus died on the Cross for us and through His death, we are reconciled to God and saved by His resurrected life.

When we place our faith in Jesus  Christ as the Son of God, we are no longer God’s enemies through sin, but we are now His children through Jesus’ death and resurrection!  Amazing!

Sometimes the Bible is hard to wrap our minds around, but we cannot comprehend it with logical thinking.  We need the Holy Spirit to direct us through the Word of God and help us to believe what it says about us and about God.  Psalm 119:34 says, “Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall observe it to the end.  Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law and keep it with all my heart.”

Inspired to Cherish
Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit to give us understanding as we take time to read Psalm 139.  Read it out loud if you can, as a prayer to God.  Take it slowly and let it flow from your heart.  Let’s sincerely ask God to search and see if there is any hurtful way in us and let’s give Him time to answer.

I cannot believe that we are on Day 13 of this devotional.  The month of September is flying by.  I know school is beginning for many, and some have already started, but it’s important that in our busyness and change of schedules that we continue to cherish the things of God above all else.  I pray that this devotional will help you do just that.

September Devotion, Day 12

Prayers of Blessing

The Lord bless you, and keep you;
The Lord make His face to shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.”

Numbers 6:24-26

Blinkin Squiggle

This is the prayer that Aaron and his sons were to bless the sons of Israel with.  When I find a prayer of blessing in the Bible that really stands out to me and that I can feel myself praying for others, I tend to begin using it in my daily prayer time for my family and friends.  I also tend to pray that prayer for so long that it becomes a part of my life – it just automatically comes out of me any time prayer is needed.  In my prayer journals, as I re-read, I often find the same prayer being prayed day after day, over a long period of time and it still means so much to me.

For years, I have prayed for God to raise our family up to be mighty men and women of God, and to raise up Godly spouses for each of our children.  I pray that we would be blessed and have His peace every time we lay our heads down to sleep.  I prayed that our bodies would be healed if we needed it and that we would hunger and thirst for His Living Word, reading it daily and obeying it.

For years, I have prayed over those who leave our home to go to their home, or to work, or run errands, or just to play;  I pray Lord, please surround them with angels and take them safely to their destination and back again.  Please give them wisdom, understanding and knowledge for their jobs, and discernment for the times we live in. Please give them favor with You and with those whom they come in contact with today. Please help them to be bold to share the Gospel of Jesus with anyone You lead them to.

For the past several years, I have prayed similar to what is often called “The Prayer of Jabez”.  I love the words in this prayer, and they are wonderful to pray for those I love and hold dear to me.  I take these words before the throne of God in all sincerity of my heart. That our family and friends would be blessed indeed and that our territory would be enlarged. That God would keep His hand upon each of us and the enemy far from us. That He would make us a blessing to the world and to glorify Jesus in all we do.

Do you have a special prayer for you, your family and friends that really resonates with you?  Do you pray for missionaries and pastors and others who take the Gospel out to huge portions of the world?  Having a specific prayer in mind that we would pray for anyone, may give us a sort of foundation to begin building upon and encourage us to pray daily or in a specific moment of time, always allowing the Spirit of God to lead. Our prayers of blessing matter to God and to those we pray for.

Inspired to Cherish
Isaiah 55 has been one of my most favored chapters in the Bible since I became a Christian over 20 years ago.  I have memorized verses 6-13 in the past, but as I read through this chapter now, I can see I need to refresh!  Let’s read Isaiah 55 out loud today.  Read it boldly, as if all the people of the world are listening.  Don’t read it silently, let it out!

Now let’s write out Isaiah 55:6-13 or just write the whole chapter if you feel led to do so.  Blinkin Squiggle

Isaiah 55 is a beautiful chapter and I get especially excited when I read, “For you will go out with joy and be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, and (imagine this) all the trees will clap their hands”.  Oh my goodness!!!!!  This is when I decide to use a specific prayer – when I feel it in my soul – so that the prayer means something from me to God for someone else!!!  Make sure you FEEL it!

With Jesus’ Sweet Love,

It Sure Is Chili On This Hot Day!

I am on a roll and I’m not about to stop now!  I finished up all the canning of my Chicken/Vegetable soup last night – 33 jars!  Then I put them in the canning cupboard and cleared some room for my chili!

I have been making batches of chili all afternoon and the kids have been me helping out.

My youngest daughter added the beans…

My oldest daughter did some tasting and adding of herbs and hot spices.

And once it was approved, with hamburger, onions, tomatoes, beans, herbs and hot spices, we let it cook for a while longer.  While I waited I washed the jars and lids.

Now I’m putting the first batch in the jars, while making the second batch and into the pressure cooker they go! MMMMM! 🙂

Well that’s enough canning for me this year!  How fun – I love doing it the homestead way when we can.  It smells good and I can’t wait till I hear, “Mom can you make some soup?” and I can say, “Get it yourself!!!” With a smile of course :0

UPDATE:  I just finished all my chili canning! 28 jars of homemade chili –  Old Mrs. Hubbard’s cupboards are no longer empty! 🙂

55 To Save A Life

The New Bible Study, “December Love” Can Be Found In The Right Side Bar ——>

Isaiah 55 is one of my most favorite chapters in the Bible.  As a matter of fact, my husband and I named our third child after his favorite book, Matthew, and my favorite book, Isaiah.  There are so many wonderful verses in this chapter and many of them I have memorized – maybe even the whole chapter.  They come to mind all the time, in almost every situation.

Tonight I was thinking of a friend who is not a Christian.  It’s her decision.  She has listened patiently to what Jesus has done for her.  But she has gently told me that she simply does not believe like I do.  She said she does not know where she will go when she dies, and she chooses to not believe the Words of God in this matter.

I am not an evangelist, as some would say, but I am a praying person!  Since her birthday is this month, she has been on my mind a lot and Isaiah 55:6-9 seemed like a perfect birthday prayer to pray for her.

Blinkin Squiggle

“Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts;

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Blinkin Squiggle

Do you have friends and family that you need to continue praying for?  I hope this passage in the Word of God will encourage you to keep on and not cease praying.  I have so many people in my life that I thought would NEVER come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, that now call Him Lord.

In my life there were many who thought I WOULD NEVER know Him.  After 30 years of walking in my own dark place, there were many who thought it could never happen.  But here I am praising my Lord Jesus and sharing His precious Words with you.  Thank you so much for stopping by, I would love to hear from you!

Happy Praying!

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Did you know there is only one Psalm that is called “A Psalm for Thanksgiving”?  And what a perfect Thanksgiving Day prayer it is.  Take time to read this beautiful Psalm and be truly thankful this Thanksgiving and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family on this beautiful day that the Lord has made.

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth.
Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the LORD Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Blinkin SquiggleEnter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the LORD is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.”

                                                                                                                                   Psalm 100

My prayer for you and your family today is that you will be found truly joyful, glad, thankful and singing praise unto our LORD for He Himself is a good God and we are the sheep of His pasture.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

6 Fun Things We Do In Cannon Beach

As you probably know by now, our family loves to go to Cannon Beach. We’ve been going there on vacation and day trips for so long, it has become like home away from home. It is such a beautiful and quaint little town that I’m always kind of shocked when I meet people who have never been there.

It’s popular enough and close enough to our home that we often see friends and even family when we go. A few weeks ago when my husband and I went to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary, we saw some friends from our home area that we haven’t seen for a long time.  It was nice to catch up with them while standing in the Safeway in Lincoln City, just outside of Cannon Beach.  They had found an old Victorian style house with 6 bedrooms to rent for $150 per night.  This is not a bad rate at all.  They were loving it.

Blinkin Squiggle

We have several different things we like to do and I wanted to share 6 of them with you today, just in case you would ever like to vacation in Cannon Beach for yourselves.

1)  Walk on the beach – Nothing beats a walk on the beach in this beautiful location on the Pacific Ocean.  You can find sand dollars, starfish of amazing colors, and the birds are of all types and plentiful.

2) Talk with the locals – There are some wonderful people who live in Cannon Beach, and they always have interesting stories of how they came to live there and the different people from around the world they have met.

3) Whale watching – Actually, there are some great whale watching opportunities at a place south of Cannon Beach called “Devil’s Punch Bowl”.  The best time of the year to see the whales is from November through the winter.

4) Bruce’s Candy Kitchen – This is a must visit!  There is an old-style taffy pulling machine and amazing candies galore, including my favorite Dark Chocolate covered Sea Foam!!!  You have to try it:)

5) Osburn’s Ice Creamery – Another one of those must visit places!  We love the fun atmosphere and service in this little shop, and the ice cream is fabulous.

 Oh, and you have to pet the black lab on the way out.

6) Walk to the Rock – Hay Stack Rock that is.  If you go when the tide is way out, you can see the most beautiful colored starfish ever!

While we are in Cannon Beach, we typically stay at the Tolovana Inn and we like to go during off-season.  They have a special:  Stay three nights, pay for two, get one free.  We like the Tolovana Inn because it is right on the beach. The condo we stay in is spacious with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room, and is close to Hay Stack Rock.  It also has a salt water pool, hot tub, sauna, and workout room.

Blinkin Squiggle

Have you ever been to Cannon Beach?  Why do you like to go?  Do you have a favorite hang out, coffee shop, or pizza place?  I have so much more to share with you about our love for Cannon Beach and all the glory of God that we see when we are there.  Until then, I hope you take time to share some of your favorite places to visit on this beautiful Earth God has made.  Thank you for stopping by.

Happy Beachcombing!

The #2 Way To Be Truly Thankful

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I am sharing with you FIVE WAYS to be truly thankful this Thanksgiving.  Here is #2:

The Second Way to be Truly Thankful This Thanksgiving

Throughout my day I continue to reflect on the verses I prayed over in the morning.  I find ways to relate my life to them and to share these promises with family and friends.  I ask the Holy Spirit to bring to remembrance the things He has taught me during my communion with Him in the early morning.  I also look for ways I see God at work in our lives.

A second way to be truly thankful this Thanksgiving Day is by encouraging each family member to help in the making of a list of what we are thankful for.  At dinner or during family time we share something we are truly thankful for that day.  A list is made together and then read at our Thanksgiving celebration.

Another option would be to hand write several letters and send them to people you are truly thankful for.  This is a wonderful act of kindness that will truly make you thankful this Thanksgiving and will lift the spirit of others around you.

Blinkin Squiggle

Do you still send handwritten letters? I would love to hear from you and if you leave a comment below I will be sure to read it. Thank you so much for visiting SimplyLiving101.  Tomorrow I will be sharing the Third of “Five Ways to be Truly Thankful This Thanksgiving”.  I hope you will join me again.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Power of Prayer

I am a praying person – I pray diligently for my family and I take my time with God very seriously on their behalf.  Sometimes I send up prayers of blessing, other times I am in prayer and supplication – communing with the Lord until I have His peace. Then there are those hours of prayer where I am pleading desperately because I don’t know what else to do.

In all these circumstances, God has been with me and has heard my every word.  As I’m thinking about it now, I’m no longer concerned about how God answers my prayer – just that He hears me and that I know it by His still, small voice that gives me such peace.  I’m learning to fully trust Him to take care of the rest in His perfect way.

Blinkin Squiggle

Today I want to share a prayer that I pray over my husband daily.  Although it may change slightly depending on what is going on in his life – these are the basics of the prayer.  I am so thankful for him!  I want to be the blessed wife that he deserves.  I want to be a blessing to him; he has been such an amazing blessing to me and our family.

I want to be like King Ahasuerus in the book of Esther when he realizes what a blessing Mordecai has been to him.  He wants to lavish blessings upon him and tell all the people how wonderful he is.  Although I am not an earthly king, I am a child of the King of kings and the Lord of lords.   So I pray to the King on behalf of my husband.

You get the picture… but, if by chance you have never heard this amazing story, you can find it in God’s Word, in the Book of Esther, the 6th chapter – I recommend reading the whole book for good measure.

Maybe you can use the following prayer as a sample of how you might pray for your husband, wife, or other faithful people in your life.

Blinkin Squiggle

Prayer for A Husband

Father,  I lift up my husband to You.  Please surround him with Your angels that watch over those who will inherit the Kingdom of God.   He loves You and has placed his faith in Your Son, Jesus Christ.  He desires Your will for his life.  What a wonderful man of God he has been for our family.  He is steadfast and faithful at home, at work, and within our church.

Father, please consider my husband on this wonderful day and bless him with an extra measure of faith in Your Word.  Give him vision that he might not perish.  Give him sound mind, love, and no fear.  Give him a humble heart.  Give him a heart of solid, sure, trust in You as his Provider and Protector.

Lord, Please heal his body and keep him strong and active.  Give him a desire to eat Your good food and a desire to exercise daily so he can enjoy Your beauty out of the office walls.

Lord, please help him to sense Your pleasure in him and see Your favor upon him.  Give him a hope everlasting.  May he be protected and safe from the enemy within and without. Fix his eyes on Jesus, Your Kingdom and Your Righteousness and give him fresh opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Please bless him on this fine day as we give You praise! Amen.
