Rivers of Living Water

“Now on the last day, the great day of the feast,
Jesus stood and cried out, saying,
‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, from his innermost being will flow
rivers of living water.’
But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him,
were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given,
because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

John 7:37-39

I love these verses.  They are some of my favorite.  Can you see what this might look like?  Can you see yourself with rivers of living water flowing from your innermost being?  I would like to paint a picture of this image.  It would be so beautiful.

It goes on to say that these rivers of living water are the Spirit whom believers would receive once Jesus was glorified.  Whom we received when we believed in Jesus because He has now been glorified.  And the Spirit flows from our innermost being like rivers of living water.  I like to say it over and over and let my mind and my heart have a moment to really wrap around this truth.

When we go out into the world, whether we are at the grocery store or getting gas at the gas station, or at the hair salon or nail salon, wherever we go, the Spirit of God is flowing out of us into the darkness.  He is flowing from our innermost being like rivers of living water, bringing life to those who are dead, to those who are weary, and to those who are thirsty.  The Holy Spirit of God is bidding the lost to come to Jesus as He pours Himself out of each of us who have believed in Jesus.  WOW!

As a believer, have you seen yourself in this way?  Have you truly believed these words spoken by Jesus so long ago about those who would believe in Him.  Take time to let your heart and your mind wrap around this truth, then spend time with your eyes closed, visualizing yourself with rivers of living water flowing from your innermost being as you go out into the world.

Inspired to Cherish
Today let’s add a few verses to our personal journal that tell us about the Holy Spirit. Write out in your very best writing:  John 14:26, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19, Romans 5:5. These are just a few of the wonderful verses that speak of God’s Spirit who dwells within those who have believed in Jesus Christ.  Maybe you would like to add another of your own.

Now let’s have some fun.  Close your eyes for a moment longer and get a good visual of all that we have seen in John 7:37-39.  Even if you think you cannot draw, draw the best picture you can of you with rivers of living water flowing from your innermost being. Draw it in your personal journal under the verses you have written out.  Also, add some people around you that are being affected by the Spirit within you.
